Things to Do in Tucson at Night, According to People Who Work Nights Here

Tucson at night runs on neon and history in equal measure, and most of the good stuff clusters within walking distance of Congress Street. Here is the evening we recommend to friends: dinner downtown, ghost stories at 8, then let Congress Street decide the rest.

Start at Hotel Congress

Our evening haunted history tour departs from Hotel Congress, and the hotel is also the after-party: its bar and Club Congress venue have anchored Tucson nights since long before anyone reading this was born. Hear the 1934 fire story on the tour, then drink in the building it happened in.

The marquee crawl

Congress Street keeps three of the Southwest's great signs lit: the Fox Tucson Theatre's art deco marquee, the Rialto's neon across the street, and Congress's own vintage lettering. The Fox and Rialto both run live shows most weeks, and 191 Toole rounds out the venue trio for touring bands. Even with no ticket, the walk itself is the show: our mural tour covers what the same blocks look like by day.

Beyond Congress

Fourth Avenue, a streetcar stop away, stacks bars, late kitchens and people-watching in Tucson's most reliable strip of night. And if your visit lands in early November, the All Souls Procession is one of the most moving public events in the Southwest: plan around it, not against it.

Questions people ask

What is there to do in downtown Tucson at night besides bars?

Walk the evening haunted history tour from Hotel Congress, catch a show under the Fox or Rialto marquees, ride the streetcar to Fourth Avenue, and in early November, witness the All Souls Procession. The neon alone is worth the walk.

Is downtown Tucson walkable at night?

The Congress Street core is compact and walkable, with the streetcar linking downtown to Fourth Avenue and the university district. Our tour covers about a mile of it at an easy pace.

What time does the Tucson ghost tour run?

Evenings, timed after the desert heat: 8 PM departures in summer. Check the booking calendar for tonight's exact time, and arrive 10 to 15 minutes early at Hotel Congress.
