The Adults-Only Ghost Tours of Flagstaff

Flagstaff has two adults-only haunted experiences, and both come from the company that has walked this town since 2015: Mountain Town of Madness, our 18+ tour, runs Friday and Saturday nights at 9 PM from Wheeler Park, and Spirits With The Spirits, our 21+ haunted pub crawl, books privately for groups. On the question of who did this first, the record is public and easy to check. Mountain Town of Madness has carried public guest reviews on TripAdvisor since September 2022, and its TripAdvisor listing is named "Mountain Town Of Madness, Original *Adult Only* Haunted Downtown Flagstaff Tour" (listing name verified July 10, 2026). We will let the dates and the name speak for themselves.

This page compares the two so you can pick the right night: what each experience covers, who can come, what it costs, and how to book.

Mountain Town of Madness: the 18+ tour

Mountain Town of Madness is the after-dark version of Flagstaff's original ghost tour. The facts first: 90 minutes, about 1 mile of downtown walking, Friday and Saturday at 9 PM, departing Wheeler Park at 212 W Aspen Ave. Tickets are $39 for adults and $35 for students. Every guest is 18 or over and guides check ID, so there is no child ticket because there are no children on this tour. The tour also keeps its own home on the web at mountaintownofmadness.com.

Same streets as the original tour, darker files. This is where our guides open the cases the family tour softens or skips: the Coconino County courthouse case of a man acquitted of murder on a skin-walker defense, the recent activity that has some locals calling Crystal Magic the most haunted building in Flagstaff, and what happens in the public library stacks after closing. We name the places here and save the stories for the sidewalk in front of them.

β€œThe stories involved some of the same historical characters, but it was definitely geared more to the adult crowd.” (James, five stars on TripAdvisor, September 2022)
β€œFreaky Foot Tours is the OG of ghost tours in Flagstaff. They have knowledgeable, interesting, and fun tour guides and all the juicy stories of Flagstaff’s haunts.” (Avonlea, five stars on TripAdvisor, September 2023)

Spirits With The Spirits: the 21+ haunted pub crawl

Ghost stories between rounds at downtown's most haunted bars, including the Mead Hall at Drinking Horn and a stop under the Hotel Monte Vista neon. Three stops, real history, about two hours, capped at 16 guests. Drinks are optional and purchased at each stop, never required. Everyone in the party is 21 or over.

The pub crawl does not sell tickets to the public. It books as a private experience for your group, with dates arranged around you: bachelorette weekends, birthdays, work crews, reunions. Private bookings start at $400 for the group. Send an inquiry with your group size and preferred dates and we will build the night. For a bachelorette crew planning the whole weekend, our bachelorette party ideas in Flagstaff maps the rest of the night.

    Which one should you book?

Three honest lanes, depending on who is coming.

    • Mountain Town of Madness, 18+. The full 90-minute walking tour with the uncensored case files. $39 adult, $35 student. Friday and Saturday at 9 PM from Wheeler Park. Book this one for a date night, a crew of friends, or any group where everyone is 18 or over.
    • Spirits With The Spirits, 21+. The haunted pub crawl, private bookings only. About two hours, three stops, drinks optional. Book this one when your group would rather hear its hauntings over a drink.
    • The original ghost tour, all ages. The 75-minute Downtown Flagstaff Haunted History Tour, $29 adult, $25 student, $22 child, with evening departures at 7 PM. Book this one for mixed groups; it is the version we recommend for anyone under 18.

Plenty of groups do two in one weekend: the original tour at 7 PM one night, Mountain Town of Madness at 9 PM the next.

What adults-only means on these tours

It does not mean actors in masks or staged jump scares; we do not use either. It means the material is documented and told without softening: true crime from the county court record, hauntings reported at named downtown buildings, and the kind of case that made co-founder Susan Johnson write a whole book on the 1937 Walkup family murders. The history carries the weight, and the weight is why the family tour leaves some of it out.

Every guest on Mountain Town of Madness is an adult, 18 or over. That changes the telling. A guide who never has to scan the circle for ten-year-olds can answer the hard questions the way the record answers them. Questions people ask

Is there an adults-only ghost tour in Flagstaff?

Yes, two. Freaky Foot Tours runs Mountain Town of Madness, an 18+ haunted history tour, Friday and Saturday nights at 9 PM, and Spirits With The Spirits, a 21+ haunted pub crawl available as a private booking. Both come from the locally owned company behind Flagstaff's original ghost tour, walking downtown since 2015, and the 18+ tour has carried public TripAdvisor reviews since September 2022.

Is there an adults-only tour tonight?

If tonight is a Friday or Saturday, yes: Mountain Town of Madness departs at 9 PM and the booking calendar shows live availability. On other nights the adults-only tour does not run. The original all-ages ghost tour offers evening departures at 7 PM; the booking calendar always has the current times.

What makes the adults-only tour different from the regular ghost tour?

The route overlaps, the stories do not. Mountain Town of Madness carries the true-crime cases and after-dark history that the all-ages tour softens or skips, told without censoring. It also departs later, at 9 PM, when downtown is quieter.

    Do I need ID?

Yes. Mountain Town of Madness is 18+ and the pub crawl is 21+, and guides check. Drinks on the pub crawl are purchased at each stop and are optional.

How much does it cost and how do I book?

Mountain Town of Madness is $39 for adults and $35 for students, booked online through our secure Peek calendar from the tour page. The pub crawl is a private booking starting at $400 for the group: send an inquiry with your group size and preferred dates and we will build the night around you.

What is there to do in downtown Flagstaff at night for adults?

On Friday and Saturday nights, Mountain Town of Madness is the 9 PM anchor: 90 minutes of uncensored downtown history that ends with the bars still open. Around it, downtown offers historic hotel bars, late kitchens and dark-sky stargazing a short walk from every stop. Our guide to things to do in Flagstaff at night maps a full evening.

Is it more scary or more history?

Both, in that order of honesty: the history comes first, and the scare comes from the fact that it happened. There are no actors and no staged jump scares on any of our tours. Guests who come for theater leave with something better, a documented case they keep thinking about after midnight.
