The 8pm in the name is the departure time, stated by the listing itself, and it is the only clock time we could verify anywhere in the St. Augustine set we compare. Five stops are named: the Castillo de San Marcos, Huguenot Cemetery, Antiques and Uniques Collectibles, Casa de Suenos and Scarlett O'Hara's, and it rates 4.6 from 582 reviews.

The booking card lower down carries an in-house name of our own, and one of the five stops no longer trades under the name on the itinerary. We are Arizona guides who research haunted history in other cities, so read this as a write-up of somebody else's tour, not one we run.

What you will see

The Castillo de San Marcos anchors the route. The National Register nomination has the coquina fort built between 1672 and 1695 and remodeled in 1738 to 1740, 1752 to 1756 and 1762; it was never taken by assault, though it changed hands three times, by treaty each time, in 1763, 1784 and 1821 (NRHP 66000062). The strongest material is the prison record, not the ghost stories: Seminole prisoners from 1837, with Coacoochee leading twenty men out on the night of 29 November that year; Plains prisoners under Lieutenant Richard Pratt from 1875; Apache families from 1886; and 447 prisoners in the fort by January 1887, with tourists coming to look at them (National Park Service). The bricked-up lovers do not survive the record: the sealed room was the fort's first powder magazine. Osceola was held here but died at Fort Moultrie on 30 January 1838, and Geronimo was never held here.

The Huguenot Cemetery is the 1821 public burying ground immediately outside the City Gate, opened during that year's yellow fever epidemic for the new territory's Protestants and closed to burials in 1884 (Florida Department of State). Its anchor figure is John B. Stickney, a United States Attorney who died on 5 November 1882 and lay beneath a marble monument recorded in B. Frank Leeds's 1892 survey. The gold-teeth exhumation tale attached to him is unsourced folklore, no Huguenots are buried here, and nobody walks among these graves at night.

Casa de Suenos at 20 Cordova Street is a working seven-room bed and breakfast, so it is a sidewalk stop. Built about 1904, it is a contributing building in the Model Land Company Historic District (NRHP 83001439) and stands on the filled line of the Rosario earthwork, which ran along Maria Sanchez Creek until Flagler had it filled in 1885. The building was the Garcia Funeral Home in the middle of the twentieth century and has been an inn since 1998 (inn history). The ghost's name, Randolph, is an operator's nickname, conceded as such, and George Colee did not build the house.

Scarlett O'Hara's needs a correction rather than a story. The federal site inventory dates 70 Hypolita Street to 1870 and classes it frame vernacular, not 1879 and not a mansion (NRHP 70000847). The restaurant of that name closed on 5 July 2022 after its owners could not agree new lease terms (Jax Daily Record), and the address now trades as The Scarlett House (Visit St. Augustine). The stop is the building, so do not go looking for a drink under the old name. The traditional ghost is a man named Colee, said to have been found dead in an upstairs bathtub; no death record, obituary or newspaper account of a drowning here was located, and even the people who tell it concede the tub is gone. A second version circulating online is worse. It swaps in a Confederate colonel who built the house in 1879, a young woman dead of consumption in 1885, and eight men killed by a gas-lamp explosion at an 1889 reunion, and it has the building serving as a Union Army officers' club in 1898. The Union Army was mustered out in 1865, so that cannot be true, and no record was found for the rest.

The fifth stop, Antiques and Uniques Collectibles, carries no research file here, and nothing on the listing states interior access at any stop.

Ninety minutes at 8pm, listed wheelchair accessible, with a single booking band running 0 to 110. It suits a traveler who wants fort, cemetery and haunted-building material on one loop.
