Key West Haunted Pub Crawl and Ghost Tour with Free T-Shirt

Key West Haunted Pub Crawl and Ghost Tour with Free T-Shirt is a two-hour, 21-and-over bar route through Old Town from Key West Promotions, booking from $32.20 per person at our August 2, 2026 check, when it carried 4.5 from 606 Viator reviews. The age rule is not decoration: the booking band carries only adult 21 to 99, with no child or infant band at all, and the listing states, verbatim, that the minimum age is 21 years and photo ID is required. The shirt in the name is the operator's own append and the listing's promise, not ours. Eight stops are named, one flagged as a pass-by, the group caps at 25, and of the city's two 21-and-over crawls this is the one listed wheelchair accessible.

    What you will see

Four of the eight stops in the table above have research behind them. Kino Sandals Inc, General Horseplay, 429 Caroline St and Tattoos and Scars Saloon have none at all, so they are names on a listing and nothing more, and we assert nothing about them.

Capt. Tony's Saloon at 428 Greene Street, next door to the ticket booth where the crawl gathers, is the original Sloppy Joe's, and that is federal record rather than bar lore. The National Register nomination for Sloppy Joe's Bar at 201 Duval, reference 06000957, listed 1 November 2006, records that the original bar stood "one block away at 428 Greene Street" and footnotes the address "Now Captain Tony's Saloon". It gives the official legal opening as 5 December 1933, the day Prohibition was repealed, names the Prohibition-era aliases the Blind Pig and the Silver Slipper, dates the new Duval Street bar's opening to 5 May 1937, and records that Hemingway was a constant patron who followed the bar to Duval. There is contemporaneous proof of the Greene Street room too: the Key West Citizen of 9 February 1937 advertised a free dance at "Sloppy Joe's Bar on Greene street", eight o'clock, Rudy and his Swing Band.

What the record does not carry at that address is the part most tours sell. No execution record, court record, newspaper account or federal document turned up in our research placing a single hanging at 428 Greene Street, and the National Register nomination mentions no hanging, no hanging tree, no ice house and no morgue. The only published hanging counts with any provenance are 18 and "at least 75", neither of them sourced, so we print none. Browne records exactly one Key West hanging by name and dates it to 10 December 1830, with no site given. The repurposed morgue in the listing's own description is not established either: Monroe County's historian is reported to have held that the building was neither an icehouse nor a morgue, and Browne puts Key West's ice houses on George, Emma and Curry's, never on Greene. There was no wireless telegraph station here and no USS Maine dispatch: Browne dates the International Ocean Telegraph Company's line to 1866 and lands the cable in front of the army barracks on the north side of the island. The hurricane in these stories is 1846, not 1865.

Duval Street's most repeated claims need dating. The Great Fire began at ten in the morning on 30 March 1886, per the contemporaneous New York Times dispatch; Browne's "about two o'clock in the morning of April 1" is wrong and has propagated into the marker program, and the 31 March that Ghosts and Gravestones prints is the day the paper printed. The fire did not destroy Duval Street, and the wire reports about fifteen injured and no deaths, so the seven-dead figure in circulation has nothing behind it. Longest street in the world is a nickname rather than a city claim: the mapped centreline is 1.19 miles, and the 1.25-mile figure belongs to Gilbert Baker's 2003 flag. Key West was also not the richest city per capita in America; Browne never says it and no census, tax roll or historian was located that does.

At the two houses, the useful facts are corrections. The Curry Mansion Inn at 511 Caroline is the pass-by, seen from the street. Browne dates William Curry's arrival from the Bahamas to March 3, 1847 and his death to January 23, 1896 and calls him the richest man in Florida; the inn's own page and Wikipedia give 1837 for the arrival, and Wikipedia January 24 for the death. The house there is his son Milton's rebuild, dated by the inn to 1901 and by Key West Historic Marker 66 to 1905, it is not individually on the National Register, and the Aunt Sally key lime pie story is lore that the marker program itself labels lore. At The Artist House, 534 Eaton Street, the correction is about the doll: Robert the Doll has been at the Fort East Martello Museum since Myrtle Reuter donated him in 1994, out of a private house on Von Phister Street, so nobody sees him on this walk.

    Who it suits

Drinkers of 21 and over who want a bar route rather than a monument route, in a party capped at 25, with a shirt in the price. Bring photo ID, because the listing asks for it in the same line as the age rule and we do not reduce that line to a bare 21.

    • Nobody under 21 can be booked. There is no child band and no infant band on this listing at all.
    • The listing says it is not suitable for travelers with heart problems or other serious medical conditions.
    • It is the accessible one of the city's two 21-and-over crawls, with surfaces and transportation flagged accessible, where the other crawl is marked not accessible. Accessibility is per listing here, so never read one across to another.
    • The T-shirt is the listing's promise rather than ours. It is the only take-home item included by any of the nine Key West listings we track: the sunset sail's food and drink are consumed aboard, and the ghost hunt's equipment is loaned.

    How it compares

We track six guided haunted Key West listings that were bookable at our August 2, 2026 check: the two 21-and-over crawls, two family-banded walks, the equipment-led ghost hunt and the trolley. Named but not ranked: a $9.75 self-guided phone tour whose nine reviews are too thin, the private haunted-history walk, out of stock at the same check, and the Sebago sunset sail, which is not a ghost product. Against the other 21-and-over crawl, Ghost City Tours' Key West Haunted Pub Crawl Walking Tour at $34.99 and 4.4 from 108 reviews, this one is $2.79 cheaper for the same two hours, holds 25 against 20, carries far more reviews, and is listed accessible where that one is not. Across the six it is second-cheapest at $32.20, behind only The Ghosts of Key West Walking Tour at $29.99, and third by review count at 606, behind the Ghosts and Gravestones trolley at 1,363 and the Ghost and Mysteries walk at 1,117. The Key West page lays them all out.

    Questions people ask

How old do I have to be, and do I need ID?

The listing states, verbatim, that the minimum age is 21 years and photo ID is required, and the booking band carries only adult 21 to 99. Bring the ID; the two halves of that rule travel together.

    Is it wheelchair accessible?

Yes. At our August 1, 2026 check the listing marked the tour, its surfaces and its transportation wheelchair accessible, and strollers accessible. That is this listing only. The city's other 21-and-over crawl is marked not accessible, so never read one across to the other.

How long is it, how big is the group, and where does it start?

Two hours, up to 25 travelers, from the ticket booth at 424 Greene Street next door to Capt. Tony's Saloon, meeting 15 minutes before departure. No clock start time is verified.

    What is included?

A professional local guide and story teller, and a souvenir T-shirt. The shirt is the listing's inclusion, and it is the only take-home item included by any Key West listing we track.

    Are there health restrictions?

Yes. The listing says it is not suitable for travelers with heart problems or other serious medical conditions.

    Can I cancel?

Free cancellation was flagged at our August 2, 2026 check, and free to 24 hours in advance at our July 29, 2026 facts pass. Confirm the current window on the booking page before you pay.
