Boston Ghost Tour Self-Guided Smartphone Walk

Self-Guided Smartphone Ghost Walking Tour Boston App EMF Reader is a 45-minute self-guided walk from WalknTours, booked as a private activity and starting from $9.95 per person at our August 2, 2026 check. There is no live guide: you follow the operator's app around seven listing-named stops on and around Boston Common, four of them flagged as pass-bys. There is also very little to judge it on. The listing carried six Viator reviews at our August 2, 2026 check, too small a sample to publish as a rating, so we print no score for it and leave it out of every comparison on this site.

    Who it suits

Self-starters who want a cheap, short, phone-paced loop of the Common and the downtown burying grounds on their own schedule. It does not suit anyone who wants a live storyteller, a guaranteed departure, or a verified answer on ages and accessibility, none of which was captured on the data we checked.

Check the operator and the route at checkout rather than the name: at our July 31, 2026 check the same operator listed a second, cheaper Boston walk naming no stops at all, so route and price are what tell the two apart. Two of the stops here need a caveat as well. The Great Elm on Boston Common no longer exists. It fell in a gale on 15 February 1876, leaving no stump, no surviving tree and no replanted descendant on the spot, only a small plaque, and the hanging-tree story attached to it is tradition rather than record; the city's own 1854 tablet on the tree said nothing about executions. The Cutler Majestic Theatre deserves the same caution, because the operator that tells its ghost story concedes in writing that there is no record of any of it happening inside the theatre, and Cutler is a donor name from 2003 rather than a historical one.
