Tucson FAQ
Booking and cancellations
How do I book a Freaky Foot Tours walking tour?
Book online through our secure Peek booking calendar (every tour page has a Book Now button), or call or text us at (928) 224-0518. Booking a few days ahead is recommended: tours are small groups, Friday and Saturday departures regularly sell out, and October is our busiest month of the year.
What is the cancellation policy?
Full refund when you cancel 24 or more hours before the tour; no refund under 24 hours. Tours run rain, snow or starlight; if we ever cancel a departure, you get a full refund or a free rebooking, your choice.
Are Arizona ghost tours open year-round?
Ours are. Flagstaff and Prescott ghost tours run nightly in every season (winter tours in the snow are a local favorite), and Tucson runs through the year with summer departures timed after sunset. Check each tour's booking calendar for tonight's availability.
Tucson FAQ
On the tour
How long are the tours and how far do you walk?
Most tours are 75 minutes to 2 hours and cover about one easy mile of historic downtown sidewalks at a storyteller's pace. Wear comfortable shoes; Flagstaff sits at 7,000 feet, so bring water and a layer even in summer.
Do the ghost tours go inside haunted buildings?
Our tours are outdoor walking tours that stop directly outside the haunted landmarks while your guide tells the documented stories of what happened inside. Many stops, like Flagstaff's Hotel Monte Vista and the Weatherford, are public buildings you can walk into on your own after the tour, and we tell you exactly where to look.
Is the ghost tour scary? Will someone jump out at me?
No actors, no jump scares, no costumes. Our tours are documented history with the dark parts left in, which most guests find scarier. If a ten-year-old asks a question, our guides can answer it honestly without giving anyone nightmares.
Is Freaky Foot Tours locally owned?
Yes. Freaky Foot Tours is Arizona owned and operated, founded in Flagstaff in 2015 by a mother-and-son team who have lived there for more than 30 years. We were Flagstaff's first locally owned ghost tour company, and the Tucson and Prescott tours run the same way: local guides, original research, no franchise scripts.
Are Tucson ghost tours worth it?
Guests rate our Tucson tour 4.9 on Google from more than 225 reviews, Visit Tucson's ghost-tour roundup names Freaky Foot Tours one of four recommended haunted tours in the city, and the Downtown Tucson Partnership lists the tour in its official things-to-do guide. Ninety minutes, one mile, eight haunted stops, $29 for adults.
Tucson FAQ
Weather and what to bring
Do tours still run if it rains or snows?
Yes. We lead tours rain or shine, wind or snow, and we carry umbrellas for anyone who needs one. Northern Arizona weather can change a dozen times a day, so we have gotten good at judging it; if extreme weather ever forces a cancellation, we tell you at least an hour before departure and you choose a full refund or a free rebooking.
Is Tucson too hot for a walking tour in summer?
Evenings work. Summer departures of the Downtown Tucson Haunted History Tour are timed after sunset, at 8 PM, once downtown has let go of the worst of the day's heat, and the route covers one easy mile in 90 minutes. Bring water and dress light. Winter visitors get the reverse reward: some of the best walking weather in the country.
Tucson FAQ
Kids and age policies
Are Freaky Foot Tours ghost tours kid-friendly?
Our regular ghost and history tours are all-ages: the stories are true history told honestly, not jump scares, and kids 8 to 12 usually love them. We recommend 13+ for the darkest material on the ghost tours. Two experiences are adults-only: Mountain Town of Madness in Flagstaff is 18+, and the private Spirits With The Spirits pub crawl is 21+.
Is the Tucson ghost tour appropriate for kids?
Yes, the Downtown Tucson Haunted History Tour is all-ages, with 13 and up recommended for the darkest stories. The material is documented history, including a deadly hotel fire, told honestly rather than played for jump scares. Parents know their kids best: if yours loves a true story after dark, they will do fine. Children's tickets are $22.
Tucson FAQ
The stories
Is Hotel Congress in Tucson haunted?
Hotel Congress, opened 1919, is Tucson's most famous haunt: staff and guests report activity around Room 242, and the hotel's history includes the 1934 fire that led to John Dillinger's capture in Tucson. It is the meeting point and first story of our Downtown Tucson Haunted History Tour.
Did John Dillinger really get caught in Tucson?
Yes. The 1934 fire at Hotel Congress smoked the Dillinger gang out of hiding, and a Tucson firefighter's memory for faces, helped along by a $12 tip, set up an arrest that had eluded police across the Midwest. How the whole gang ended up in handcuffs is the opening story of our Downtown Tucson Haunted History Tour.
What happened at the Pioneer Hotel fire in Tucson?
The December 1970 Pioneer Hotel fire killed 29 people, including hotel guests trapped on the upper floors, and remains one of Arizona's deadliest fires. The building still stands on Stone Avenue, and its story is one of the most sobering stops on our Tucson tour.
What is the most haunted place in Tucson?
Hotel Congress carries Tucson's most famous hauntings, which is why our Downtown Tucson Haunted History Tour starts there. It is only the first of eight haunted stops: the Fox Tucson Theatre, El Tiradito wishing shrine and the site of the 1970 Pioneer Hotel fire are on the route too. Which stop is the most haunted depends on which guide you ask.
Is the Fox Tucson Theatre haunted?
By local reputation, yes. The Fox Tucson Theatre, entertaining audiences since 1930 behind its Art Deco facade, has decades of staff and performer reports, and it is a stop on our Downtown Tucson Haunted History Tour. We will not spoil where in the building the reports cluster; your guide tells that story on the sidewalk out front, steps from the marquee.
Are the Tucson ghost stories real?
They are documented history first. The 1934 Hotel Congress fire and the 1970 Pioneer Hotel fire are matters of public record, and the method behind every stop comes from the original researcher behind our Flagstaff tours: newspaper archives, county records and first-person accounts. Where a story is legend rather than record, your guide says so plainly. That honesty is the whole approach.
Tucson FAQ
Private tours and groups
Can I book a private tour for my group?
Yes. Every public route in Flagstaff, Tucson and Prescott can run as a private departure for birthdays, work teams, reunions, bachelorette parties and school groups. Several experiences are private-only: the Southside tour, the Spirits With The Spirits pub crawl, the Citizens Cemetery tour and the paranormal investigation, all quoted per group. Call or text (928) 224-0518 or use the contact form and we will build it around you.
Tucson FAQ
Parking and meeting points
Can I bring my dog on the tour?
Well-behaved leashed dogs are welcome on our Flagstaff sidewalk tours, the Original Flagstaff Ghost Tour and Mountain Town of Madness. Downtown gets loud and busy on weekend nights, so bring your dog only if crowds will not make them anxious. For Tucson, Prescott or a private tour, call or text (928) 224-0518 before booking and we will confirm for your date.
Are the tours wheelchair or mobility friendly?
Our downtown tours follow city sidewalks for about one mile at a storyteller's pace with frequent stops, so many guests with mobility considerations do fine. The one exception is the private Citizens Cemetery tour in Flagstaff, which covers uneven ground. If someone in your group needs an accommodation, call or text (928) 224-0518 before booking and we will do our best to make the tour work.
What time does the Tucson ghost tour start and where does it meet?
The Downtown Tucson Haunted History Tour meets at Hotel Congress, 311 E Congress St, on the Toole Avenue side of the building by the Visit Hotel Congress mural. Departures are at 8 PM this summer; check the booking calendar for tonight's exact time. The tour runs 90 minutes over about one mile. Adults $29, students $25, children $22. Arrive 15 minutes early.
Where do I park for the Tucson ghost tour?
Two Park Tucson garages sit practically on top of the meeting spot: the Depot Plaza Garage at 45 N 5th Ave and the Centro Garage at 345 E Congress St, both open around the clock. As of July 2026, street meters go free after 7 PM Monday through Saturday and all day Sunday, and the free Sun Link streetcar stops near Hotel Congress. Our guide Where to Park in Downtown Tucson for a Tour has the details.
